As the season finale for AMC's Walking Dead approaches, you may be wondering what you can do to protect yourself against a Zombie Apocalypse.  You may state the obvious like; carry weapons with lots of ammo, locate and maintain a safe food supply, never turn your back on a zombie.  One thing you don't want to neglect is your home base.

Sometime after the fall of civilization, your home will be invaded by mobs of hungry zombies.  As you start picking them off your home, you will no doubt start thinking about your home's weakest links... your windows.

Tempered glass will be no match for the strength and determination of the undead.  Your halfhearted efforts of boarding up your windows with plywood will keep you up at night.  The only real solution for such a horrific yet plausible scenario are hurricane shutters.

You will want to at minimum install storm panels, but who really wants to be putting up panels as your home is marauded by "walkers".  Look into accordion shutters or rolldown shutters that have met Miami Dade's rigorous anti-zombie protection approval process.

Get them before all hell breaks loose!

What would happen if you left your car in your garage one morning and didn't return for three years?  If it didn't get stolen, and it was never turned on, chances are it wouldn't work.  What would happen if you went 10,000 miles without an oil change?  Your car would hate you!

Like many things in life, without maintenance, things fall apart.  The same thing goes with hurricane shutters.  Although hurricane shutters manufactured at All World Shutters are composed of high grade aluminum and stainless steel, regular maintenance will make a huge difference down the line.

Accordion shutters are mechanical in nature (they roll across a track).  The wheels carry all the weight of the hurricane shutter and coincidentally are the weakest link when it comes to deferred maintenance.  If you live along the coast and haven't maintained or at least operated your hurricane shutters regularly, let me know how it goes for you next time you try to close them.

For some more detail about how to properly maintain your accordion shutters, please check out our Maintenance Page.  Whether you just got shutters or have had them for years, maintaining your hurricane shutters will prevent an "Oh Darn!" moment for you right before a storm!

When you think of hurricanes, you think of wind speeds. You know the faster the wind blows, the more powerful the storm.  When we design hurricane shutters, we think of wind pressures.  This is when it starts getting complicated.

During a storm, your home will experience Positive + and Negative - wind pressures.  Positive wind pressure is what is blowing against your hurricane shutters.  But Negative wind pressure is a force that pulls away from your house and hurricane shutters.  The best way to imagine this is as a giant vacuum cleaner trying to suck out your hurricane shutter.  What you may not know is that the Negative wind pressures along the corners of your home can be TWICE that of the Positive.

Imagine a hurricane that's twice as powerful as you think!  No worries, Miami Dade Approved hurricane shutters are more than capable of handling the forces of tropical systems.

This saying may be cliche but it fits perfectly as a warning.  "Use Protection" is short and to the point.  It delivers an important message.  If you live along the coast and are considering upgrading your home's protection, please do it before it's too late.  There's just too much at stake.
